For many, The Empire Strikes Back is the best Star Wars film of all time, and rightfully so. It certainly took everything that made A New Hope so great, and took it all to the next level. The acting, the cinematography, the story -- everything is improved upon. Not only that, but even the modern day sequels, with all of their improvements in modern day film making techniques and technology, pale in comparison withe the masterpiece that is Episode V.
That being said, this is one of the films I am least familiar with. Actually, Return of the Jedi is the Star Wars film I grew up watching the most, and has even consequently become my most favored film from the entire franchise. So when I watched through the film to prepare for the remixing process, I found that the most important parts of this movie centered around Luke's training, his eventual confrontation with his father, Darth Vader, and the budding relationship between Han and Leia. It is no surprise then, that these central themes became the focus of this most epic of remixes.
First of all, the performances from Harrison Ford and Carrie Fisher, and the on-screen chemistry they bring, is legendary. In Episode II, there is a similar subplot involving the romance between Anakin and Padame. The difference is, it actually works extremely well in Empire.
In addition to one of the best movie-romances of all time, the film also has one of the most iconic characters of all time in Yoda. For the most part, he is goofy and hilarious, but he is also extremely serious, and makes an excellent teacher for Luke. And it all leads perfectly to Luke leaving his training early to face off a threat he cannot possibly beat -- only to learn that his sworn enemy is also his father.
Yeah. This movie is hard to fuck with. A science fiction masterpiece, and one of the best films ever made. And also, one of the remixes I have enjoyed putting together the most. Thank you so much for stopping by and, until next time, dominate life.
